mrandmrsmays / mrandmrsmays
Mrandmrsmays' self-titled CD posits its local husband-and-wife team
in DIY heaven, with a little help from friends. Sixteen Deluxe's Chris
"Frenchie" Smith produced this edgy little album like an ode
to 1980s New Wave. Vocalist Kate Kind orbits the B-52s' Cindy Wilson's
gulpy vocals and Björk's sonic soaring with her "banshee shenanigans."
Songwriter James Mays shares more ethereal vox with very provocative
results ("Together"). review by Margaret Moser / Austin Chronicle
"One thing I never thought would go well together is The Cure
and Riot Grrrl. Well mrandmrsmays have made me see the light. It's a
perfect match check out 'Freak On' which starts like a Cure track before
morphing into a riot grrlesque chant with some Teardrop Explodes like
trumpets as an added bonus. It's another contender for the Devil's end
of year top 10" Review by The Devil has the best tuna / Liverpool

car window after hearing it for the tenth time in a row."
